Race-ready Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR updated
The new race version of the iconic Golf - the GTI TCR (Touring Car Racing) has been revealed.
With 350 hp, the latest Golf GTI TCR goes into 2017 with new aerodynamics. Following the first full season of racing, in which it won 17 races and two championships, new modifications have been made to the car's outer skin, while the technology under the bonnet has also been fine-tuned, says VW.
Central to the new modifications are revised front wings, with a new profile and vents for improved aerodynamic efficiency to optimise performance on fast sections of the track. Under the bonnet, technicians have also optimised the the power development of the 2.0-litre turbo engine, improving the control of the sequential gear box and integrating a ‘powerful’, electric power steering. VW says sweeping technical changes and large boosts in performance are not possible under TCR rules.
The Golf GTI TCR is available in race trim from €90,000 (Approx £78,600) plus VAT from Volkswagen Motorsport, based on the road-going Golf GTI, it's aimed at professional teams and drivers wishing to take part in a growing TCR series around the world.
