Third-generation Bentley Continental GT breaks cover
Bentley has revealed details of its all-new Continental GT, describing it as the definitive Grand Tourer.
At the heart of the new car is an all-new 626 bhp version of Bentley’s 6.0-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 TSI engine, mated, for the first time, to a dual-clutch eight-speed transmission for even faster gear shifts. Developing peak torque of 664 lb.ft, the 12-cylinder power unit can launch the GT from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 207 mph.
Bentley claims the GT’s new, technically advanced, adaptive chassis ensures a responsive ride and improved handling and refinement in all road conditions thanks to its intelligent 48-volt Dynamic Ride System which controls ride comfort and lateral roll, cushioning passengers from excessive movement.
The new Continental GT’s muscular bodywork is both lightweight and stiff, says Bentley. The engine is positioned further back to improve weight distribution for driver-focused, dynamic performance.
The interior design is tailored specifically to the modern luxury customer, integrating cutting-edge onboard technology with the finest handcrafted natural materials.
Offering four seats and increased luggage capacity, the GT’s cabin features luxurious details such as a new ‘diamond in diamond’ leather design. There’s a fully digital, driver-focused instrument panel and Bentley Rotating Display for the driver, featuring a 12.3” touchscreen housed in a three-sided unit which revolves the veneer to reveal the touchscreen as well as three analogue dials.
Bentley chairman and chief executive, Wolfgang Dürheimer, said: “The new, third-generation Continental GT is the pinnacle of our design and engineering achievements and marks the next step in Bentley’s journey.”
The new Continental GT will make its global debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show between 12-24 September, 2017.
