Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet to cost £110k

The first open-top Mercedes S-Class since 1971 will start at £110,120 OTR.

Available to order now, the S-Class Cabriolet range will come with a choice of three powerful petrol engines. The S 500 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.6-litre V8 with 455 hp, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 is propelled by a 5.5-litre V8 twin-turbocharged unit generating 585 hp while the range-topping S 65 features a 6.0-litre V12 twin-turbo with an output of 630 hp.

The S 500 can sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds, while returning 32.5 mpg. The S 63 can hit 62 mph from standstill in 4.2 seconds, and the S 65 can reach the same speed in 4.1 seconds. All three models are electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph – but this can be increased on the S 63 and S 65 to 186 mph with the optional AMG Driver’s package (S 63 - £2,760; S 65 - £765).

On the S 500 AMG Line, standard equipment includes AMG body-styling, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with Intelligent Lighting System and Adaptive High Beam Assist Plus, AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously variable damping control as well as AIRSCARF neck-level heating, to name a few.

In addition to the AMG Line standard equipment, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 adds a front splitter in matt silver along with an AMG radiator grille with twin louvre in matt silver. AMG chrome-plated twin tailpipes, ‘V8 BITURBO’ lettering on the front wings and 19-inch AMG alloy wheels also feature.

The S 65 adds further equipment, including LED Intelligent Light System with Swarovski crystals, AMG sports exhaust system with two polished chrome twin tailpipes, larger 20-inch alloy wheels while on the inside designo Exclusive Nappa leather with diamond quilting joins illuminated door sill panels with ‘AMG’ lettering, a heated steering wheel and head-up display.

The Driving Assistance package (standard on the S 63 and S 65, £3,180 on S 500) consists of a 360° camera, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist System with Junction Assist DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Pilot and Stop&Go Pilot, PRE-SAFE Brake with pedestrian detection and PRE-SAFE PLUS. In conjunction with Premium package, the Driver Assistance package will cost £2,295.

Mercedes says a key option for AMG Line customers is the Premium package (standard on the S 63 and S 65, £4,998 on S 500), which includes 20-inch alloy wheels as well as the 360° camera, AIR-BALANCE package, Burmester surround sound system, Front Seat Comfort package, illuminated door sills, Warmth Comfort package and KEYLESS-GO Comfort package.

The AMG Night package (only available on S 63 and S 65) costs £795 and adds an AMG front apron in high-gloss black, two black chrome-finished twin tailpipe trim elements, exterior mirror housings, AMG side sill panels and AMG rear apron in high-gloss black.

The optional AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre package (£5,000) adds a carbon fibre finish to the AMG front apron, exterior mirror housings, AMG side sill panels and AMG rear apron.
