Kia has revealed the European specification for its new Stinger fastback sports saloon.
Following its global premiere at the Detroit Auto Show on 9 January, the Stinger will be available in Europe with a choice of three engines: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, a powerful 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6, and – announced for the first time – a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine.
Each power unit is in the final stages of tuning before entering production. With turbochargers equipped across the engine line-up, Kia says the Stinger offers drivers ‘effortless gran turismo-style, high-speed cruising' and instant acceleration when called upon, with all three engines providing high power and torque across a wide band of engine speeds.
The 2.2-litre turbodiesel is capable of producing 200 ps at 3,800 rpm with a maximum torque output of 440 Nm enabling the car to accelerate from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds, and on to a top speed of 140mph.
The Stinger’s most powerful engine is a 3.3-litre twin-turbocharged V6 ‘Lambda II’ petrol engine, with peak power of 370 ps, 510 Nm torque enabling a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating production Kia ever. With this engine, Kia says it is targeting a top speed of 168mph.
An electronic eight-speed automatic transmission is fitted as standard with all engines. The new model is also Kia’s first saloon to be available with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
The Kia Stinger will enter production and go on sale in Europe during the fourth quarter of 2017. Pricing will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
