Lucid Air launched in California

Lucid officially launched its all-electric sports saloon - the ‘Air’ - at an event with over 400 VIPs in attendance.

With 1,000 horsepower, autonomous-driving capabilities, and the interior space of a large executive saloon in a midsize footprint, Lucid says the Air has ‘reimagined the concept of the luxury car’.

The evening began with a presentation by Peter Rawlinson, Lucid’s Chief Technology Officer, and Derek Jenkins, Vice President of Design. After the car was unveiled, the floor opened up to guests who had the opportunity to get up close and have a look at the technology and design behind the Air.

Attendees were also able to take rides in Air prototypes, in which they experienced the car’s power and space, as well as autonomous capabilities.

The Air completes the 0-60mph dash in just 2.5 seconds. Both the electric motor and transmission have been designed and developed in-house, resulting in a ‘smaller, more efficient and more power-dense’ powertrain than its competitors, says Lucid. On the inside, luxurious rear executive seats with up to 55 degrees of recline offer ‘first-class aircraft seating’ in the back of a car.

Production gets underway in late 2018 with deliveries beginning soon after. Prices for ‘well optioned’ models will cost over $100,000 (Approx. £80K) with future models available from around the $65,000 mark (Approx. £52K).
